My end-of-the-year “Bearin’s” column in Commercial Fisheries News (the January 2014 issue on newstands now – or available online at http://fish-news.com/cfn/) recounts some of our Sunday morning music sessions at my brother Stevie’s shop in downtown Stonington, ME. Normally, the shop is where Stevie works on his lobster gear – but on Sundays, it’s become a place for friends to get together … and sometimes music is involved.

Somewhere along the line, the shop sessions became known as “Church” … and that works for me just fine. (I figure church is where you find it – or it finds you.)

My “Bearin’s” column mentions one special Sunday – when a friendly stranger with a guitar sat in with us for a few tunes. It took us a few months to figure out that we’d been blessed with a visit from Mick Lynch of the duo Storyman and his wife Deborah Lopez, a noted NYC-based photographer. I’ll let you read the CFN column for yourself … in the meantime, here are the two videos mentioned in the piece: Mick leading us through “Whiskey In The Jar” and “Danny Boy” (the only time I’ve ever been in a room full of sober people singing that one).

Happy New Year to you … maybe we’ll see you in Church.

Now I understand why you enjoyed my new album so much, Brian. These videos could easily have been shot at Guinan’s – the place I sing about in “Between the River and the Rails.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usCEiUD_3vQ
